Byron for Gestalt, Level 1

After using The Experienced Player’s Encyclopedia of Esoterica in the last build, now I am using it again in conjunction with The Grim Grimoire. The Dark Knight class fits wonderfully for Byron, and I decided to join the dark servant granted by this class and the loyal mount granted by the Cavalier support class in one creature. Just wait until he can get the Exotic Mount equestrian exercise…

Primary Class Features

Signature- Dark Servant: You gain an animal companion. However, in addition to being able to be drawn from the normal list of animals you may pick a lesser imp or other level 1 creature with the unholy keyword. Any creature you select gains the unholy keyword and gains superficial physical traits that link it to the kind of curse you select.

  • Wrath: Using your unholy wrath you can curse a foe using 1 action, locking your souls together for the next minute. When you strike a foe with wrath you gain a bonus on that damage roll equal to your level. You can decide if this damage is divine damage or the normal damage type dealt by the attack. Striking such a foe causes a small flash of unholy sparks.

Boost: You can spend a Hero Dice upon successfully hitting the target of your wrath to deal Absolute Damage instead of your normal damage.

  • Detect Monsters and Curses: You gain Detect (Monster) and Detect (Curse). In regards to curses, this offers no special insight into what they are suffering from, just if someone nearby is cursed.
  • Curse: During character creation you must select your curse from those listed in this class. This grants you certain “accursed powers” and a compulsion. Unlike normal curses it cannot be removed except by achieving its ends. (Ancestral)

Secondary Class Features

  • Expert Rider: You gain the following benefits:

Automatic Riding: You automatically pass all checks made to ride your loyal mount if the DC is 20 or less.

Multiple Attacks: You can take multiple actions to attack while mounted.

Delicate Actions: You can ride a mount as smoothly as if you were sitting at a desk. You can take delicate actions without issue (no check required).

Ranged Attacks: You can make any ranged attack while riding (even if you’re not Professional in the use of the weapon).

  • Loyal Mount: You begin play with a loyal mount of your choosing. This loyal mount is an animal companion that can be selected from the following list of animals: camel, greater horse, standard horse, or greatswan.

Honors

Lineage Traits

  • Hybrid Vigor: Select a save (Fortitude, Reflex, or Will) and improve your proficiency in it by 1 step (Unskilled> Skilled> Professional> Exceptional).
  • Graceful (Elven): You are Professional with Reflex saves. If you’d already be Professional from your classes, you become Exceptional instead.

Cultural Traits

  • Honor & Pride: If someone offends you or your sense of cultural honor you get a Free Hero Dice on the next d20 roll you make that targets the offending party within the next minute. However, you must let them know of the offense, even as you take the action. (“YOU DEVIL, MY MOTHER WAS A SAINT!”, “I’ll not suffer such words said against me!”, “For Haderhall!” etc)

Biography

Byron is Fiona’s half-brother. He was raised to be a knight and take one day the throne since his mother belonged to the royal family and the old king had no heirs. He always knew that she was forced to marry his father, there was no love in their marriage, and he was a child of abuse, only born to be exploited. He hates himself for that and wants to be hated by everyone else. When he learned that the God of Sorrow and Thunder had chosen him as his champion for the impending battle against evil, Byron felt even more abused, thinking that the god had arranged his birth and his mother’s suffering for his own purposes. So he decided to betray everyone’s expectations and pledged himself to the cause of evil.

Senses: Detect (monster, curse), scent.

Languages: Farm Tongue.

Common Monster Traits: None.

Special Qualities

Bodybuilder: Triple your carry capacity to 15 + your Strength modifier (carrying capacity 17, drag 64).

Athletics: Exceptional in Athletics.

Reflex: Professional in Reflex saves. If the mount is already Professional in Reflex saves they instead become Exceptional.

Armor: Your mount can use light and medium armor.

Understanding: Your mount instinctively understands you as if you shared a common language between you. They cannot actually understand it and cannot speak or write it. They can follow simple commands by voice (“Come here”) but cannot follow complex ones (“Pull the lever behind the barn, it’s under the wood pile” or “Do my taxes”).

Honorable: As a note, your loyal mount will become as famous as you do and may share the benefits of your honor feats (within reason).
