Simple Monster Template: Dream-Touched

The alebrije was one of the last monster templates to appear for the 1st edition of Pathfinder. When I saw it, my reaction was: “Aaaaaargh! Why didn’t they do it EARLIER?” I always wished for a rainbow butterfly unicorn kitten familiar, and now I could at last... no, wait. Alebrije is not an allowed  template for familiars. And there was no time left for designers to create a lessened version that was fit.
Well, what the duck. I did it myself.
And now I can cuddle my rainbow butterfly unicorn kitten.

Simple Template: Dream-Touched (CR +0 or +1)

A creature can assume the dream-touched template much in the same way as others become alebrije. Beloved pets invested by the power of imagination or transformed into imaginary friends after their demise become partly a product of their masters’ minds. A spellcaster of at least 3rd level with the Improved Familiar feat can choose a dream-touched creature as a familiar.

A dream-touched creature’s CR increases by +1 only if the base creature has 5 or more HD.
A dream-touched creature’s quick and rebuild rules are the same.

Rebuild Rules

Type the creature counts as both its base type as well as a magical beast (extraplanar) for any effects related to type; Senses gains darkvision 60 ft. and dreamsight; Defensive Abilities gains DR and energy resistance as noted on the table below; SR gains SR equal to its new CR +5; Speed gains a fly speed of 20 feet (average). If the dream-touched creature has 11 Hit Dice or more, it gains a fly speed of 40 feet (average) instead. If the creature already has a fly speed it improves its maneuverability by one step instead.
