Holy Ragers, Part 2: Oath of Rage for Paladins

If I wish for a LG holy rager, I’m wishing for a paladin and no excuses. Sacred Servants who worship a god granting the Rage subdomain have it easy, but what about the others? Well, this is for them!

Oath of Rage

There is no fury like that of a righteous warrior fighting for a cause. While many believe that rage is incompatible with a paladin’s vows, some of the most impetuous are able to focus their faith through prayer to enter an ecstatic state that multiplies their energies, and don’t fear to unleash their deity’s full wrath against evil and chaos.

Skills: An oath of rage paladin adds Intimidate to her class skills list. This alters the paladin’s class skills.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A paladin with this oath doesn’t gain proficiency with heavy armor. This alters weapon and armor proficiency.

Righteous Fury (Ex): At 5th level, an oath of rage paladin gains the ability to rage as a barbarian for a number of rounds equal to her Constitution + her paladin level. She treats her paladin level as her equivalent barbarian level. This replaces divine bond.

Merciful Rage: From 6th level, every time the paladin could select a mercy, she can instead gain a rage power that she qualifies for.

Heaven’s Ire (Su): At 11th level, an oath of rage paladin may cast paladin spells while raging. She can also cast these spells defensively and can make concentration checks for these spells while raging. The paladin also adds her Constitution bonus, in addition to her Charisma bonus, on her attack rolls when using smite evil during a rage, and can expend one of her daily uses of lay on hands to recover two rounds of rage. This replaces aura of justice.

Holy Rager (Su): At 20th level, the paladin’s DR increases to 10/evil. Whenever she uses smite evil and successfully strikes an evil outsider, the outsider is also subject to a banishment, using her paladin level as the caster level (her weapon and holy symbol automatically count as objects that the subject hates). After the banishment effect and the damage from the attack is resolved, the smite immediately ends. In addition, she gains greater rage, as the barbarian’s ability of the same name. This alters holy champion.

Code of Conduct: Never let go unavenged a wrong committed before your eyes. Punish evildoers with maximum might and severity.

Oath Spells: 1st- wrath; 2nd- rage; 3rd- flexible fury; 4th- shared wrath.
