Inquisition Paladin
This character may have begun as an inquisitor and then become aware that his deity called him to
different battles, or it can be a normal paladin who realized that sometimes the clenched fist is needed against evil.
An inquisition paladin must select one deity to worship. This deity’s alignment must be within one step from his own.
Alignment: Lawful good, neutral good, or lawful neutral.
Class Skills: An inquisition paladin adds Intimidate to her class skills list.
Aura (Ex): A lawful neutral inquisition paladin has an aura of law instead of an aura of good. This has no effect on lawful good or neutral good inquisition paladins.
Inquisition: At 4th level, when an inquisition paladin gains the ability to cast spells, he also chooses one inquisition associated with his deity. His effective cleric level for this inquisition is equal to his paladin level –3. Levels of paladin and inquisitor stack for the purpose of determining inquisition powers and abilities.
Channel Energy: A LN inquisition paladin serving a LE god channels negative energy instead of positive energy. A LN inquisition paladin serving a LN or N god can choose whether to channel positive or negative energy. This has no effect on LG and NG inquisition paladins.
Divine Bond: An inquisition paladin whose divine bond is with a weapon can give his weapon the jurist property in addition to the other properties listed. If the inquisition paladin is LN, he can't give it the holy property; if he's NG, he can't give it the axiomatic property.
Alternatively, the inquisition paladin can gain the service of an outsider servant. This functions as summon monster III, except the duration is permanent and the paladin can only gain the service of a single creature and that creature must either have the good and/or lawful subtypes or it must be a celestial or resolute animal, as appropriate for his alignment. Once selected, the choice is set, but it may be changed whenever the paladin gains a level. Upon reaching 7th level, and every two levels thereafter, the level of the summon monster spell increases by one, to a maximum of summon monster IX at 17th level. Once per day, as a full-round action, an inquisition paladin may magically call her servant to her side. This ability is the equivalent of a spell of a level equal to one-third the paladin’s level. The servant immediately appears adjacent to the paladin. A paladin can use this ability once per day at 5th level, and one additional time per day for every four levels thereafter, for a total of four times per day at 17th level. At 11th level, the servant gains the advanced template. At 15th level, an inquisition paladin's servant gains spell resistance equal to the paladin’s level + 11. Should the paladin’s servant die or be banished, he may not summon another servant for 30 days or until she gains a level, whichever comes first. During this 30-day period, the paladin takes a –1 penalty on attack and weapon damage rolls. This ability otherwise functions as and replaces divine bond.
Smiting Judgment (Su): At 5th level, and every 4 levels thereafter, the inquisition paladin may select one judgment from the inquisitor's list. He can spend one use of his smite evil ability to use the chosen judgment instead. This ability and inquisition replace mercy.
Spells: An inquisition paladin can't cast paladin spells of an alignment opposed to his deity's (so, a LN inquisition paladin serving a LE deity can't cast spells with the Good descriptor, and a NG inquisition paladin serving a CG deity can't cast spells with the Lawful descriptor). The GM may allow to replace these spells with others taken from the inquisitor or antipaladin's lists. For example, a NG inquisition paladin worshiping a CG deity could replace his lawful spells with lend judgment (1st level), castigate (2nd level), denounce, judgment light (3rd level), atonement and lend greater judgment (4th level).
